Great experience! The mosque is beautiful inside and out. I really wanted to see the blue tiles, and they are stunning. The light through the colourful windows inside is truly captivating. DISCOVER THE BEAUTY AND HISTORY OF THE BLUE MOSQUE

The Blue Mosque (Sultan Ahmed Mosque) is one of Istanbul’s most famous landmarks. Built between 1609 and 1616 by Sultan Ahmed I, this grand mosque, which can accommodate more than 10,000 people, is still an active place of worship and a top tourist attraction. The mosque gets its name from thousands of iconic blue İznik tiles decorating its walls. With six minarets, large domes, and a big courtyard, it is one of the most stunning mosques in the world. Inside, you will see large chandeliers and walls with beautiful blue and white İznik tiles in detailed patterns. The huge central dome, supported by four large pillars, is decorated with Arabic calligraphy and floral designs. Light streams through over 200 stained-glass windows, creating a peaceful feel. At the front of the mosque, you will spot the mihrab, a carved marble niche showing Mecca's direction, and the minbar, or pulpit, a tall, carved structure where the imam gives sermons. The Blue Mosque is a beautiful example of Ottoman art, Islamic calligraphy, and grand architecture. After exploring the interior, you can walk around, take photos, or relax in the peaceful atmosphere.

EXPLORE THE HISTORICAL OLD CITY WITH A GUIDE

The Blue Mosque Ticket includes a guided tour of the Sultanahmet district, where you will explore Istanbul’s Old City and its rich history. VISIT BLUE MOSQUE'S LARGE COURTYARD

With your Blue Mosque Ticket, you will have the opportunity to visit the Blue Mosque courtyard, a huge open space almost as big as the mosque. It is surrounded by beautiful arches and stone columns. In the center, you’ll see a small fountain, once used for washing before prayer. The main gate, decorated with Arabic writing, is a great spot for photos. From here, you can enjoy a wide view of the mosque’s six minarets and domes. The courtyard is a peaceful place and the perfect setting to admire the mosque’s beauty.

Famous blue look of the mosque

The Blue Mosque is decorated with more than 20,000 handmade İznik tiles with colorful patterns of flowers, trees, and fruits. The floral patterns represent Earth during the spring and the Gardens of Paradise. These predominantly blue tiles give the mosque its famous blue look. The tiles were made in Iznik, a town in Istanbul known for its pottery.

The mosque also has around 260 colorful stained-glass windows that let in natural light, making the inside bright and peaceful. Long ago, these windows had original 17th-century glass, but over time, they were replaced with new ones. Together, the tiles and windows create a beautiful synergy, making the mosque one of the most beautiful places in Istanbul.
