The Topkapi Palace is a timeless masterpiece that has witnessed the flow of history for centuries. The palace was built in the mid-15th century as the luxurious residence of Ottoman sultans and their families. For almost 400 years, Topkapi Palace was the epicenter of power and prestige in the Ottoman Empire, serving as the sultan’s primary residence and the government’s administrative center.
The Topkapi Palace complex underwent expansion throughout the centuries under the rule of different sultans. The Palace area used to cover over 700,000 m2, making it one of the largest palace complexes in the world. A big part of its exterior complex, Gülhane Park, now belongs to the public area. From its stunning courtyards and elegant pavilions to its intricate iznik tiles and stunning gardens, every inch of Topkapi Palace exhibits luxury and magnificence.
As you explore the palace’s rooms and gardens, you’ll see firsthand how the Ottomans didn’t spare on decoration. Make sure to stop at the imperial treasury to see jewel-encrusted weapons, precious stones, heirlooms, and artworks that have been preserved for centuries.
Today, Topkapi Palace remains one of Istanbul’s most iconic landmarks, situated in the oldest part of the city. You’ll be mesmerized by the history and heritage inside the former Ottoman Empire palace.

Not to be missed!
It was a magical day and well worth the entrance fee. I adored blue tiles with interesting patterns, and my husband really enjoyed the clock pavilion. A huge space filled with the most amazing collection of clocks from different historical periods. We wandered the Palace and the concubine quarters, and after three hours of exploring, we decided to sit down in a delightful restaurant with an outdoor space overlooking the Bosphorus. I really recommend a skip-the-line ticket to visit the sites.
